Wednesday - February 20 - 12:00 pm (CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER)  On Wednesday, February 20, at noon, please join the Penn Law Federalist Society in welcoming Mr. Leonard Leo, the Executive Vice President of the Federalist Society, for a talk on modern Supreme Court confirmations. After graduating from Cornell Law School, Mr. Leo clerked for Judge Raymond Randolph of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Mr. Leo is a top advisor to President Trump regarding the Supreme Court selection and confirmation process, as well as lower federal court nominations and confirmations. He also organized the outside coalition efforts in support of the Roberts and Alito U.S. Supreme Court confirmations. The event will take place in Gittis 213 and food from Chick-fil-A will be served. A Kosher/vegetarian option will also be available.

Thursday - 02/14/19 - 12:00 pm  On Thursday, February 14, at noon, please join the Penn Law Federalist Society in welcoming Mr. Eugene Scalia for a conversation on the problems of the modern regulatory state. A graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, Mr. Scalia is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Gibson, Dunn, where he Co-Chairs the Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice Group. Ms. Scalia also serves as a lecturer in labor and employment law at the University of Chicago Law. Joining Mr. Scalia for this discussion will be Sophia Lee, a Penn Law Professor of Law and History. The event will take place in Gittis 214 and food from Baby Blues, along with a Kosher/vegetarian option, will be served.
Tuesday - 02/12/2019 - 12:00 pm  On Tuesday, February 12, at noon, please join the Penn Law Federalist Society in welcoming Judge Kent Jordan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit for a discussion of the legacy of Abraham Lincoln. A graduate of Georgetown Law, Judge Jordan clerked for Judge James Latchum on the District Court for Delaware. After serving as a federal district judge, Judge Jordan was unanimously confirmed to the Third Circuit in 2006. In celebration of the 16th President’s birthday, Judge Jordan will speak on the lasting legacy of Abraham Lincoln and lessons we can learn from him today. The event will take place in Gittis 214 and Mama’s Vegetarian will be served.
February 6, 2019 - 12:00 pm  Please join the Penn Law Federalist Society on Wednesday, February 6, at noon, for a panel discussion on the future of legal, medical marijuana in America. Mr. Paul Larkin, a Senior Legal Research Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, will discuss deregulation efforts—at both the federal and state level—and the likelihood of their success in achieving legalization. Joining Mr. Larkin will be Professor David Rudovsky, a Senior Fellow at Penn Law. Professor Rudovsky will examine the effects of deregulation on criminal sentencing and the criminal justice system more broadly. The event will take place in Gittis 213, and Wishbone will be served. A Kosher/vegetarian option will also be available.
January 31, 2019 - 12:00 pm  Please join the Penn Law Federalist Society on Thursday, January 31, at noon, in welcoming Professor Randy Barnett of Georgetown Law for a critical assessment of substantive due process. A graduate of Harvard Law, Professor Barnett is an expert in constitutional law, having argued before the Supreme Court in the landmark Commerce Clause case, Gonzales v. Raich. He also served as counsel for the NFIB in its challenge to the ACA. Professor Mitchell Berman, the Leon Meltzer Professor of Law and Philosophy here at Penn Law, will respond to Professor Barnett's argument. The event will take place in Gittis 213.
January 23, 2019 - 12:00 pm - Co-Hosted by UPenn College Republicans  On Wednesday, January 23, at noon, please join the Penn Law Federalist Society and UPenn College Republicans in welcoming Josh Blackman, an Associate Professor of Law at the South Texas College of Law Houston. After graduating from George Mason Law School, Professor Blackman clerked for Judge Danny Boggs (6th Circuit) and Kim Gibson (W.D. Pa.). Professor Blackman is an expert in constitutional law and the Supreme Court, and will be discussing the recent ruling in Texas v. United States, in which the Affordable Care Act was declared unconstitutional by a district judge in Texas. Professor Kermit Roosevelt will provide responsive commentary.
